How to resize images
Pick the size
The longest side, a width and height, a percent, a social or photo size such as Instagram portrait or passport 35 × 45 mm, or a print size in cm or inches.
Add your images
Drop as many as you like. Each row shows the old and the new size; turn or flip one with its buttons.
Check and download
Press Compare to slide between the original and the new picture, and tap what to keep when it is cropped. Download one, or all as a ZIP.
Common questions
Short answers about what the converter keeps and what stays private.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser, so your pictures are read and the new files are written on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Which ways can I resize?
By the longest side (one number for wide and tall pictures alike), an exact width and height, a percent (150 % and 200 % make it larger), a social or photo size, or a print size in cm, mm or inches at a DPI. A shape only, such as square 1:1 or 4:5, crops or fills without changing the number of pixels.
Which social media sizes are there?
Instagram portrait 1080 × 1350, square 1080 × 1080, 3:4 1080 × 1440, Story and Reels 1080 × 1920, YouTube thumbnail 1280 × 720 (kept under YouTube's 2 MB), Facebook Page cover 851 × 315, X 1920 × 1080, LinkedIn 1200 × 627 and Pinterest 1000 × 1500 or 1000 × 1000. Each size was checked on the platform's own help pages. The picture comes out at exactly that size.
Can I make a passport photo size?
Yes: passport 35 × 45 mm, US passport and visa 2 × 2 in (600 × 600 px, under 240 KB), ID 3 × 4 cm and 4 × 6 cm, at 300 dpi. This sets the photo size only. Check your country's rules for the head size, the background and the expression before you print or upload it.
What happens when the shape is different?
Crop to fill keeps the middle, the top, or the most detailed part of the picture; to choose it yourself, open Compare, press Choose what to keep and tap the picture. Or fit the whole picture and fill the rest with a blurred copy of it (as phones do), with a colour, or with nothing.
Will a small picture be made bigger?
Not unless you turn on Enlarge small pictures. Without it a small picture keeps its size, and in a social or photo size it sits in the middle of the canvas. Sharp pixels enlarges pixel art and screenshots without blurring them.
Can I keep it under a file size?
Yes. Max file size lowers the quality until the file fits, and never changes the size you picked. If it cannot fit at that size, its row says so.
Which format do I get?
Each file keeps its format: a JPG stays JPG, a PNG stays PNG with its transparency. HEIC becomes JPG, because browsers cannot write it. You can also pick JPG, PNG, WEBP or AVIF for all of them, with a quality slider for JPG, WEBP and AVIF.
Is there a limit?
No daily limit and no file size limit set by us. Drop many files at once and download them one by one or together as a ZIP. Very large pictures depend on how much memory your device has.
Can I also make the files smaller without resizing?
Yes, with Compress image: it keeps the size in pixels and makes the file smaller.
What is "Created with FormatYard.com" in my files?
Like the photo apps that write their own name, FormatYard writes this short note in each file it makes: in the Software field of a JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, JPEG XL or TIFF, as a comment in a GIF or SVG, and as the maker of a PDF. It holds nothing about you. To take it out, along with every other photo detail, use the EXIF remover.
